Article #1629 - Teaching Note for FoodCloud: Stimulating Kindness Towards Making the World a Fairer Place – One Step at A Time
IRE Vol 18: Issue 2, 2020, Pages
Author(s): Eamonn Caffrey, Liam Brady, Sean Flynn, Jane Higgins, Ellen Marie McKenna, Julie Newman, Paul Nolan (Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland)
Abstract:
The teaching note addresses the case of FoodCloud, an Irish-based social enterprise with international ambitions to address the critical issue of food waste and simultaneously help and support community groups, charity agencies and international networks in a drive towards social and environmental sustainability. The enterprise is now present in eight countries and supports the elimination of food waste via redistribution primarily through, though not limited to, two channels. The teaching note is organized for students to examine five areas of good interest to the enterprise: forward-looking statements, entrepreneurial process, resources and capabilities, internationalisation drivers, and future strategic options. The case is suited to undergraduate and postgraduate students with an interest in the strategic management of an enterprise whether it be for corporate or social purposes.
