Intervention to promote SME growth: a review of 20 years at Cranfield

Abstract:
This paper reviews the history and development of the Business Growth & Development Programme at Cranfield School of Management. Over twenty years this programme has helped over 1,000 ambitious owner-managers grow their businesses and develop themselves as leaders.
The paper explains the methods and processes used to engage an audience of high-growth potential SMEs. This philosophy of engagement draws support from previous studies, but rests crucially on an understanding of the inextricability of the owner-manager and his or her business, and that a successful development intervention must address the needs both of the business and the person.
