Suzlon - the 'Upstart' Acquirer from India

This case deals with a wind power major from India, Suzlon Energy. On the heels of rapid growth and a spectacular IPO, Suzlon grabbed headlines as an emerging market company boldly acquiring large European targets. The stellar run up in market share and profits was interrupted by a mix of events. Set in 2011, the case traces the global ambitions and achievements of Suzlon as it makes forays in backward integration. Following a spate of reversals, Suzlon is faced with changed circumstances from where a comeback has to be made. The company management and some analysts believe that a revival is around the corner.

The case covers a review of the wind energy sector, the evolution of a global company from an emerging market and allows an analysis of issues involved in vertical scope expansion.
