Abstract:
Scholars often contend that the field of management advanced beyond ?one-best
way? thinking to contingency perspectives nearly five decades ago. Yet in the area of strategic management, one-best way views are still common. Numerous authors have advocated a variety of strategy-making approaches, but no framework has emerged as a well-accepted basis for choosing among alternative approaches. Here, contingencies affecting strategy process choices
are examined, and an explanatory framework is offered.
